For us, at Sensidev, a leading Romanian software company, this journey began over 12 years ago when three colleagues decided to leave their comfortable jobs to create something of their own.

A Leap into the Unknown: From Founders' Perspective
"When we decided to leave our stable jobs over a decade ago, it wasn’t just about wanting more freedom or flexibility," says Ionut, one of Sensidev's founders. "It was about creating a place where we could experiment with new ideas, take creative risks, and actually bring innovative solutions to life without the usual corporate restrictions."
At the time, the three of us were working as employees in established companies. We had secure paychecks and predictable routines. But we also felt constrained by the corporate red tape that often stifled creativity and slowed down progress. Leaving that security behind to start Sensidev was a risky move, especially because we were stepping into the unknown. But that risk came with the promise of pursuing our passion for software development on our own terms.
Facing Early Challenges in Building a Software Company Head-On
"The beginning was tough, no doubt," says Lucian, another co-founder. "We didn’t have a client base, a steady income, or even an office. But we had skills, experience, and a shared vision. We decided to bootstrap our way up by working on projects we could get our hands on while developing side projects that excited us."
Our strategy was simple: leverage what we knew and explore new opportunities wherever we could find them. We kept working with a previous client, which gave us some stability, and also ventured into freelancing platforms like Upwork. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was effective. "We put in the hours—over 10,000 hours logged on Upwork, to be precise—and gradually built a reputation for reliability and quality," says Ionut. This early success on Upwork was a crucial milestone. It provided not just income, but validation that we were on the right path.
From Projects to Products: Evolving Our Vision at Sensidev
As we grew, our views on what we wanted to create and how we wanted to impact the market evolved. Initially, we were focused on surviving and taking on any projects that came our way. But as we gained more experience, we started to see the value of specializing in building products that could address specific needs across different industries.
"We realized we didn't just want to code projects; we wanted to develop solutions that could really make a difference for businesses," Lucian explains. "This shift led us to focus more on building scalable products, like automation tools and intelligent systems that could streamline everyday processes for companies. Instead of being just another software vendor, we aimed to become a trusted partner who could offer valuable insights and innovative solutions."
Innovating Through Challenges in Software Development
Over the years, we faced ups and downs, like any startup. One of the most challenging periods was around 2017-2018 when we went through internal restructuring. It was a tough time, and only Ionut and Lucian remained actively involved with Sensidev. "We could have seen it as a setback," Ionut says, "but we chose to view it as a chance to refocus and redefine our goals."
We decided to expand our customer base and grow our team with talented developers who shared our vision. This wasn’t just about hiring more people—it was about finding individuals who could bring fresh ideas and help us innovate. "We started to focus more on long-term relationships with clients, really understanding their needs, and developing solutions that would have a lasting impact," Lucian notes.
Pioneering Solutions in Automation and AI
Our experience showed us that many businesses still rely heavily on manual, repetitive tasks. "We saw a big opportunity to help these companies save time and reduce errors by automating their workflows and using intelligent systems," says Ionut.
This led us to develop specialized software solutions for business process automation, integrating AI to handle tasks that were once time-consuming and prone to mistakes. For example, we created systems that cut document processing time from two weeks to just a few hours. These solutions not only improved efficiency but also helped our clients reduce costs and focus on more strategic activities.

"One of our biggest strengths has always been our ability to adapt," Lucian reflects. "In the beginning, it allowed us to take on a variety of projects and learn quickly. Today, it helps us stay ahead of the curve by integrating new technologies and continuously improving our products and services."
